Massage Therapy

Studies have shown that musculoskeletal injuries heal much faster with a treatment plan combining both Chiropractic care and Massage Therapy. Massage Therapy at Lakeway Spine Center is problem focused and performed to address soft tissue injuries and pain that our patients are experiencing.

Often, pain or discomfort is related to both joint problems and soft tissue (muscle, ligament, and tendon) injuries. Our licensed massage therapists will choose the technique that best fits treating your condition.

Lori Leftwich, LMT

Lori grew up in Sugar Land, TX and lived and worked in the Houston and Sugar Land area until moving to Austin in 2007. Lori attended and graduated from The Winters School of Massage in Houston as a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2000. After graduation, she began her career working in a day spa. Finding herself unfulfilled with this line of work, she began taking classes to gain additional knowledge in therapeutic massage and has added Myofascial release and Thai-Yoga massage to her list of certifications.

Lori was selected by the Houston Rockets to be the massage therapist at their training camp, and worked on most of the players.  She also has experience working with members of the Houston Texans.

In 2004, Lori started working in a chiropractic office not only as a Licensed Massage Therapist, but also as a Chiropractic Assistant, and knew that she had found her calling.  Lori enjoys being part of a Chiropractic team that is able to help relieve patient's pain and returning them back into the finely-tuned individuals that they want to be!

Her specialties include:

Myofascial Release  -Myofascial Release (MFR) is a form of massage therapy that uses sustained pressure to loosen or release stiffness and tightness in connective tissues and muscles. This tightness in muscles and connective tissues, especially fascia, results in back and joint pain, loss of range of motion, and can lead to more severe joint problems. Injuries, stress, inflammation, and poor posture commonly result in these types of problems.

Myopractic Massage -Myopractic Massage integrates Swedish massage, trigger point, myofascial release and even structural integration techniques to form an integrated system. Myopractic techniques work on both massage tables and chairs, use little or no oil, can be done on skin or through the clothes, and can easily determine the correct speed and direction needed. In addition we encourage therapist/client interaction and connection during treatment.

Deep Tissue Massage -Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscle, tendons, and fascia.

Sports Massage -Sports Massage is a form of body work that uses Deep Tissue and Swedish massage techniques specifically adapted to deal with the effects of intense physical exertion on the body. Its primary purpose is to easy stiffness and pain in both muscles and joints, increase mobility in muscles and joints, warm muscle and connective tissue prior to exercise and help in removing toxins and lactic acid after a workout.

Thai - Yoga Massage - Surviving over 2,000 years, Thai-Yoga massage has become one of the most sought after alternative health treatments around the world. Different from traditional Western styles, Thai-Yoga massage blends stretching, bending, Yoga exercises, acupressure, and energy balancing. Thai-Yoga massage surpasses may benefits of the more familiar styles. Benefits range from increased flexibility, relief of muscle and joint pain, to a sense of peace and inner balance.
